Richard Baxter

Dr. Richard Baxter, associate professor, serves as Chair of the Department of Communication. He holds the Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where he majored in communications; the Master of Arts from the Henry Grady College of the University of Georgia, where he majored in public relations; and the Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University, where he majored in elementary education.

Prior to being named Department Chair, Richard was a co-owner, publisher, and executive editor of two business periodicals in South Texas: The Business Journal of Corpus Christi and The Business Times of the Rio Grande Valley.  While maintaining faculty assignments during more than 27 years of higher education experience, Richard has served as a department head, an executive assistant to three university presidents, a university vice president and an executive director of a $35.4 million foundation.

Richard's research interests are related to the relationship between business and the media and the use of alternative media by business. His hobbies include travel and golf.
