Nikita HarrisDr. Harris Y. Harris has spent most of her life on a university campus. She earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Howard University in Washington, DC. She holds a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Auburn University, Auburn, AL and did post graduate work at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Interpersonal Communication. Before pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Harris attended high school on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University in her home town of Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Harris' research focuses on organizational socialization of marginalized populations, gender communication, organizational training and career development. She has teaching experience in both traditional and on-line classroom settings. She has taught courses in Conflict Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Organizational Communication and Small Group Communication. Dr. Harris' teaching philosophy is one that bridges "theory and practice." She is often sought after as an organizational trainer and communication consultant for various organizations. She has trained employees in over 30 different federal and state agencies and consulted with a myriad of public and private organizations, such as NASA, Department of Interior, Federal Training Academy, Department of Education, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Cyber Technologies. She is a member of the National Communication Association, American Society of Training Development Professionals, Blacks in Government and Alpha Kappa Alpha International Sorority, Inc. She enjoys traveling, collecting lighthouses and porcelain African American dolls, skiing, fine dining and watching the Dallas Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins!
