The presentation consists of three parts: An opening statement by the student, questions-and-answer of the student by faculty, and faculty discussion and assessment. The opening statement and question-and-answer period are open to the university community. The discussion is private among the faculty, after which there is a confidential assessment with the student.
The student’s opening statement should be an extemporaneous speech (maximum 3 minutes, well organized, using presentational software). The presentation needs to be descriptive rather than evaluative, e.g., instead of saying something was useful or important, show the panel how something was useful or important. It should not simply review curriculum objectives or the portfolio.
The faculty panel will take a maximum of 15 minutes to ask the student questions about their portfolio, the opening statement, and previous answers.
For some ideas about themes and questions which have been used for the opening statements and the question-and-answer period go to Themes & Questions.
